One of the most popular content management systems (CMS) in the world just celebrated a huge milestone their 10th anniversary. WordPress launched way back in May 2003 By Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little as an easy way for users to publish content to the web and as of today, it powers nearly 20 percent of all content on the web.
Some 70 million websites rely on WordPress each day – and not all of them are small, personal blogs. CNN, Reuters and The New York Times all use the platform to publish their blogs. Even large tech sites use elements of the software to publish content.
True enough, WordPress has evolved from a simple blogging platform to a full-featured CMS with a huge array of plug-ins, themes and web applications ready to deploy. Twitter analytic services and shopping cart systems allow aspiring merchants and seasoned e-retailers alike to shop their wares online.
